A Christmas Card

The number of Christmas cards sent through the mail is reportedly dropping now year on year. At some point in the near future, they will probably be novelty items. And when that happens, it won’t be a big surprise.

Naturally this isn’t in the post, but I wanted to “give” you a card…

There was a time we sent cards to let people know we remembered them. Now we “see” each other on Facebook and Instagram pretty much all the time, and can get in touch by just firing off a short message. Laboriously writing out and sending handwritten Christmas cards seems to matter less and less.

I used to send out dozens of cards, but that was now years ago. Some of you of a more “youthful” age than myself may have posted only a few cards in your entire life. I also don’t believe that no one will be reading blogs or on social media over this weekend; many of us will sneak a peek or two (or 20) at what our social media friends are up to…which is why I posted this.

We are at my father’s for the holiday. We drove down here to Pennsylvania on Friday.

Have a Merry Christmas (if you observe), wherever you may be.

2018 is now just around the corner, of course. I do hope there will be a new novel next year; but the way it’s going it will more likely be early 2019. Our world as we know is full of unwritten and unfinished novels, and having completed four since 2013, wow, I sure as heck now understand why that is. 🙂

  1. Merry Christmas, dear Robert! I’m still making Christmas cards and send them to my friends. And I’m not going to give up this wonderful tradition. Technologies have no heart, but a Christmas card always does.
Happy & Creative 2018 to you! Looking forward to your new novel! 🙂
