As An “Award” Nominee

I do not even know what this is, but it is an honor just to be nominated I guess, so I would like to begin by thanking my Kindergarten teacher at Queens, NYC Public School 19…😂😂😂

[From Twitter.]

All kidding aside, yesterday morning I clicked around and had a closer look at this “award”:

I have been blogging much longer than my blog here exists – going back to the “turn of the century” on other now “defunct” sites – so have seen such “awards” more times than I can count. You probably know the drill too. Based on those “rules” as a “nominee” we are on our own blog “supposed” to answer questions our nominator asked us (mine did not, for which I am grateful😂👍) and then we in turn tag are “supposed” to nominate other bloggers and ask them new questions like, uh, I don’t know, maybe I suppose, these…

1. What scary film scared you the least as a child?
2. What’s your favorite foreign language?
3. What U.S. state tree do you dislike the most?
4. Are you more a dog or a cat?
5. If you could do be any literary character, who would you do be?

It seems all pretty harmless and fun. Yet I avoid these sorts of blogger “games.” I am not anti-social, nor do I want to be a considered a killjoy. I simply feel some may be too busy or just don’t want to and yet may feel “pressured” to join in, and I do not want to get them offside wasting their time asking that kind of fluff of them.

My biggest problem with these “blog ‘award’ chains” is how they never really strike me as similar to, say, an innocuous “Follow Friday.” (Remember those on Twitter?) They come across to me instead as a bit of a “pyramid scheme” or “chain letter“… started by someone looking to get themselves noticed and linked back by everyone so they as the starter get most of the attention (and, likely, business).

Having had a look at the SEO site that apparently started this and which we are “supposed” to link (“Rules: No. 6”), I thought about it and concluded I will not do that because aside from for informational purposes I don’t “credit” and “link” any web site I had never heard of before “yesterday.“

Do you really care about my favorite brand of hybrid car? LOL!

The likes of that excerpt above is why I am on my blog here.

And it is why I hope you are here too.

Yes, I do occasionally link to and mention sites I visit often because I think *you* who visit me here might find them useful and interesting, but I am careful about “endorsing” any other blog because I would not want to point you in a bad direction. That said, here I do thank author Dan Santos for thinking of me as in any way “inspirational.” If you visit Dan’s author site as I do regularly, I think you will be glad you did.

Have a good weekend, wherever you are. 🙂

  1. While I still think you and/or your writing deserve an award I could kick myself for falling for that SEO trick. Let’s blame someone or something, quick! I got it. Let’s blame the person who invented the Internet. I think a politician once took credit for it! LOL
