The Holiday (Film)

What a ludicrous hour to be awake on a Sunday. We’re going to church early. Like many of you, we’ve been spending the weekend preparing for Christmas:

Last night, we took a break and watched The Holiday:

And if you want to get a reaction from your friends and others on Instagram, just mention The Holiday. I had no idea. Apparently, everyone has seen it!βœˆπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

By the way, it does do a reasonable job portraying an English village. Often when we see films that have anything to do with what we know, we all think, “That’s ridiculous.” Not so this one. There are villages around us here in Hertfordshire like the one in the film – indeed, our own is.

And there are houses like Kate Winslet’s. Our 17th century cottage doesn’t look like that from the outside by any means (let’s not get too carried away; it is a film), but inside it does generally resemble it. As Cameron Diaz does, I too have hit my head on the staircase.

It even gets the snow depth generally right. There is some, but not too much. It does snow in real-life, but mostly dustings as in the film.

Oh, and the scene shortly after her arrival when Cameron Diaz is driving on the snowy narrow country lane? And the oncoming lorry (truck) on the other side of the road that’s so wide it is overhanging her side of the road, leading her to scream as she fears her car can’t possibly fit between that truck approaching on her right and the high hedge blocking her in on her left? Yep, that’s an English country road.πŸ˜‚

Hope you’re having a good weekend.😊
