Semi-Random Thoughts For This Morning

Good morning! The mind can sometimes be all over the place on a Monday morning. So this post is something of a mishmash. πŸ™‚

“Hello” new followers!

I see my tongue-in-cheek “letter” I’d written in 18th century English was something some of you found amusing.

Warning: I’m not always that amusing!

If you’re on Google+ I just wanted to note once more that I am now, too. I’ve taken the plunge (with Adele Archer’s helpful guidance). Circles, collections, +1s and such…. I’m getting the hang of it, I think. πŸ˜‰

Goodreads. That site. I have to use it more, I know. (I know, I know, I know.)

There’s so much “social media” out there. Where do we draw the line? For instance, I don’t do Instagram and don’t think I ever will. I like photography; but I’m not a massive photo taker. I couldn’t do Instagram justice, really – so that gets me out of that one, at least.

And I’ve got books to write.

I don’t like partisan politics on here as you know, but I saw this yesterday and felt I had to share it: it’s the single clearest (and calmest) explanation of the so-called “Trump phenomenon” I’ve read. It may be especially interesting if you’re outside of the U.S. and are trying to get your head ’round it. This is what political scientists get paid to do: research objectively and try to understand: “The One Weird Trait That Predicts Whether You’re a Trump Supporter.”

Note, though, the word “weird” doesn’t appear in the actual article. It’s only in the title. One suspects Politico chose it to attract “clicks.”

In that sense, it worked on me. I fell for it! Darn it!

But it was worth reading.

Awoke to find the Super Bowl matchup determined. The Panthers had thrashed the Cardinals for the NFC Championship. In the AFC, the Broncos had defeated the Patriots – Peyton Kenobi and the valiant forces of the Rebellion had held off Lord Belichick and his Storm Troopers.

That refers to American football, of course. To those outside the U.S.: we’re raised with it. Don’t ask me to explain it, or even to begin to try to address what it means to us, or why. πŸ™‚

For me, today, it’s mostly back to the late 18th century again:

The packet is waiting, so I must hand this now to the courier, and I am, as always, your most affectionate & humble servant….

Have a good Monday, wherever you are in the world. πŸ™‚

  1. You’re a pro on G+ already! And I don’t bother with Instagram either. By the way, what the hell has happened to I was forced to update my page and now all functionality has been lost! I can’t find a way to see any correspondence. Ughhh! 😱

    1. I knew you’d say that! But you’ll be happy to know I suspect the entire country – save perhaps Boston and parts of New England – were rooting for Denver yesterday! Although I didn’t see the game, I was pleased they won!
